" Kent based Dog Trainers with a calm and balanced approach to dog behaviour and dog training"

Puppy Classes-Kennel Club Puppy Foundation

At ABC for Dogs we encourage owners of new puppies to start classes as soon as possible, preferably between the ages of 9 to 12 weeks. This is important as the learning curve of young puppies changes dramatically at around 5 to 6 months. Research has shown that puppies that are not socialisied before this can be adversely effected in later life. Our classes have been designed to be fun and informative operating in a safe environment enabling the training to have a maximum effect.

We feel that puppy classes are very important as they help the owner to establish a relationship with their puppy based on mutual respect and a better understanding of each other, with this most owners will obtain their goal of having a well behaved dog and one that is a pleasure to have around.

We take puppies from 9 weeks old to 6 months old. At 6 months puppies progress to an older dog obedience class. For details of these classes please click here

Puppy Classes are held on a Monday Evening at 630pm and 730pm.

Cost is £18 for the first lesson and £8 every lesson thereafter. (Please contact before attending for full details)

We have both indoors and outside training areas so are able to conduct our classes in all weathers or lighting.

Classes are held at JL Wrights Farm, Buckland Road, Cliffe ME3 7RT.

Content and Aims of the Kennel Club Puppy Foundation Course.

What we aim to acheive with you and your puppy is the foundation for having a happy , well behaved, adult dog. We are very aware that training needs to be fun so there is an emphasis on games, treats and toys in all our classes.

We encourage all members of the family to attend our classes as we feel that it is important that every one is consistent with the puppy and its training.

Aims.

1. All puppies should respond to their names by looking at their owner.

2. To teach the puppy the sit, down and stand positions using verbal commands.

3. To teach the puppy to sit and wait for their food bowl and food manners.
4. To teach the puppies to be happy to have people (strangers) to touch and genly examine them.

5. To teach the puppies a short stay by the owners side.

6. To teach the puppy to recall to their owners.

7. To teach the puppy how to walk on a loose lead.

8. To teach the puppy the meaning of the word "stop"

9.To teach the puppy to be sociable around other dogs and people. There is an element of off lead play in our classes, but this is carefully controlled and supervised. Puppy socialisation is acheived by controlled interaction and careful assessment of each individual puppies temperament.

10. To teach the owners the responsibility of dog ownership and how to care correctly for their dogs.

11. To teach the owners how to play with their puppies in a controlled manner.

All this and more. We aim to give all owners as much support with their dogs as possible so we are avaliable by phone , email or text if any issues arise outside of the classroom.
